Claire Pooles

Claire is our Dog First Aid Franchisee for West Berkshire and Hampshire.

Claire has been owned by dogs, cats and horses (to name but a few!) for most of her life and is an experienced animal carer, earning herself the nickname “the fairy dogmother” amongst friends and neighbours for whom she often looks after their four legged family members. Her number one passion in life has always been animals, especially dogs and says “I honestly cannot imagine a life without a dog or two, or ten, in it!”. She currently has two dogs of her own, a re-homed whippet and a cheeky Italian greyhound, together with two cats and a retired racehorse.

Claire joined the Dog First Aid network in 2018. After a 20 year career in finance, Claire is now a full time Dog First Aid trainer, having undergone our extensive training programme, including training with registered members of the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons. When she’s not teaching dog first aid, Claire is also an animal portrait artist!

Having been involved in a number of canine related emergencies herself, including choking, barbed wire injury and an attack by another dog, she is passionate about empowering dog care professionals and owners with the knowledge and skills they would need in the event of an emergency situation with a dog. “We’ve all been there and how many of us have frozen in those situations, unsure how to react. Those first few minutes are vital and can mean the difference between life and death. The right training gives you the confidence to deal with the situation calmly and effectively, to stabilize the dog, until you can get to a vet”.
