Marianne is our Dog First Aid Franchise Partner for Oxford & Bucks.
Originally from the Welsh coast, Marianne is a vet and Member of the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons with 7 years’ experience in clinical practice. Her interests include behaviour & welfare, emergency medicine & surgery, and building close working relationships with pets & their parents.
Marianne has loved animals for as long as she can remember and always wanted to work with them. After graduating from Bristol in 2010, Marianne spent a few months in mixed practice before moving to Oxfordshire to work exclusively with companion animals.
During her time in practice, she has provided coaching and mentoring for student veterinary nurses, vet students and recently graduated vets. She has also taught and written veterinary modules for Abingdon & Witney College’s canine hydrotherapy courses. Her parents are both teachers, so it’s no wonder teaching comes naturally to her.
Marianne also enjoys learning. As a vet, she has to spend at least 35 hours a year on continuing professional development, and is currently enrolled on a course on Developing Emotional Intelligence in Puppies.
As a first opinion vet, Marianne has treated a wide variety of life-threatening canine emergencies, including trauma, gastrointestinal emergencies, poisonings, seizures, and cardiorespiratory emergencies. She knows the vital role the pet carer plays in getting the patient to the vet in as stable a condition as possible, and is keen to support dog carers in developing the knowledge & confidence to deal with emergencies as they arise.
Marianne has 2 Parson Terriers called Possum & Wombat, their best friend Monkey the cat, and 4 chickens called Schnitzel, Schnapps, Spatchcock and Officer Stroganoff. Wombat is a keen swimmer and loves the beach, Possum loves nothing more than a dog 5 times his size to jostle with. When not at work their favourite pastime is exploring the countryside with their mums Marianne & Stef. In May 2017 the 4 of them completed the Muddy Dog Challenge together for Battersea Dogs & Cats Home. The dogs love an adventure and have been camping, mountain climbing and hope to try canoeing soon.
